===trust===
as i've been blabbering about in my past blogs, i am currently helping a congressional candidate in her campaign for the coming May 14 mid-term elections. before this I used to help the progressive block in their bid for congressional sectoral representations as well.
when i joined the team of this beautiful mayor, she asked me why activists, or radicals as she puts it, are so dedicated with their work despite the lack of compensation. she said that it was ironic that we have been pushing for wage increase for the public and private sector, yet here we are working for virtually nothing. i told her that oftentimes i have to spend my own money in our campaign. she was in disbelief. she just can't grasp the idea that there are still people left in this world who are passionate about their cause. who are willing to die for the betterment of society.
i don't blame her.
when i joined her campaign, the very first thing that i noticed is the lack of trust towards the people sorrounding her. it's not that she doesn't trust her people, but it seems that her circle (family included), lacks trust in her people. it was easy for malicious elements to instigate mistrust towards her most loyal followers. the sad thing is, this has blown the spirit of an otherwise happy individual. it's like her world came apart, and she cries by herself thinking of all the sacrifices that she has done, and her reward was suspicion.
me... well, i'm not expecting her to trust me, or her family. i won't be surprised if rumors would spread around believing me to be a spy. a couple of nights ago i decided that i would tender my resignation to show delicadeza for the accusations that my friends are throwing at her. fortunately, my brahmin family thought that it would be unwise to do so. why be affected by what other people are doing? why let other people dictate my future? my fate?
now, so what inspired me to write this piece?
well, our most awaited campaign stuffs just arrived and my candidate's hubbie said that we should not rely on our networks because they would not post these posters if we would not give them any financial compensation. he said that people have asked him the same favor and now he has a lot of calendars and stuffs still to be posted. he said, "i don't want others to do to me what i do to them" heheheheh... well, a pretty good comment.
still, trust is the issue.
because he doesn't trust the people whom they are supposed to be relying on for their ultimate victory, there is a division in the air. a tension that should not have been there. people, if they believe that you could genuinely help them, would do their best to help you. the thing is, is that what people see in you, or do they see the traditional politician who is so used at using people for their own gains?
me? well, i don't care. i'm just here to work.
my loyalty? its to the greater majority. the people.
i will never be loyal to an individual, except of course to myself.

::random comment:: Don't be loyal to the majority, because then it's that much easier for them to use you as a scape goat. It's politics. Make everyone think you trust them and that they can trust you, then assume they dont trust you.... I was going somewhere with that, but I can't remember. Point is.... if you gotta inhale, don't let anyone see it, lol.
^ that's a cynical comment. not in a bad way, i guess...i mean...well, yeah i guess i do.
politicians put politics first.
trust? that's waaaay down on the list.
yes, as just said, i think that "people" start off running for office , but then they become "politicans"... sigh
ryc - the shells
yes, that morning, the tide was really low and sprawling ... and there had been a storm the day before, so the beach was covered in shells, both whole and crushed, was actually fun to walk on, and was so wonderful to watch the water just ebb and flow over the colors
