  • California not closing doors to Filipino PTs?

    News

The Physical Therapy Board of California finally issued a statement condemning the July 12 decision of the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy's decision to ban examiners from the Philippines, India, Pakistan, and Egypt.

In a letter addressed to William Hatherill of FSBPT, Steven K. Hartzell executive officer of PTBC, said that the ban is "discriminatory and unacceptable."

He added that despite FSBPT's careful qualification of the ban to students of educational institutions from these countries, and not merely the country of origin, which in essence makes it nondiscriminatory to nationality, still, the fact remains that majority of graduates from these countries are its citizens, so, he argued that in essence it is just like disallowing the country itself and its citizens from seeking equal employment in the US.

He said that if the examination is compromised because questions were posted on the internet, this does not limit access to said questions to the four countries alone. As such, the ban should be for all. No exceptions.

Because of this, he pointed out that FSBPT, as the franchise holder of the examination, should either suspend testing to all candidates or lift the ban, otherwise it will be seeking legal counsel "to determine if the FSBPT is in breach of its contractual obligations to the Board."

Here's a copy of the letter.
