Soul consciousness vs. body consciousness
Reflections
|Let go of body consciousness and sit here in the stage of soul consciousness
To be soul conscious is to realize, know, and believe that I am soul and not this body. Body consciousness is believing that I am this body and nothing more.
When we are body conscious we tend to relate everything that is of this body as our truth. We give in to the pressures of everyday life and we burden ourselves even with mundane concerns, like what people would think of your looks or of the kind of phone that you are bringing. Because of this we spend all our time finding the means for us to be able to meet all the demands of our bodies. And so we experience a lot of sorrow.
To be soul conscious, on the other hand, is to realize one's destiny and one's worth. With soul consciousness comes the consciousness of one's original qualities of peace, love, power, bliss, wisdom, purity, and truth. Soul consciousness brings about self esteem and self respect, because despite one's standing in life this would not be a burden for him knowing his true nature, his real value. So what if this body plays the role of a beggar? Am I a being lower than that of a king?
All our bodies are made up of the same elements, but if we see the body and if we relate to the body more than that with the driver of this body, the soul, then we would easily lose our respect for ourselves.
Always, when we say "I" we refer to this body, but is it the body who says "My hair," "My eyes," "My nose," or "My body"?
We are souls and we are the driver of this body. To realize this and to accept this allows us to experience our relationships in a different way. We see people not as their bodies but as who they really are, and so we begin to let go of seeing their physical attributes, their smell, and their accomplishments. Love becomes free flowing and acceptance of one's weakness is natural.
This would take practice, but by keeping this awareness in front of us allows us to remember this profound truth of ourselves.
So, who are you? Are you the driver or the car?
Don't let the vehicle be the captain of the ship. It's time for us to start claiming our right as the captain of our ship.
Just imagine if you let go of the steering wheel of your car and just let it drive itself, what would happen? Well, perhaps in the near future this is possible, but for the sake of this discussion, I surely would not want that to happen to me.
Today, my effort is to keep on reminding myself of this simple truth and go about playing the roles of this body with this awareness. This would take a lot of effort, but I am sure it would be worth it.

I am just starting to see in a different way, to be more aware, more conscious. I much prefer it!
I really liked this one. Alot of wisdom to it. Random thought....I just watched Z's clip of swan lake. I think I would like to build my body back up to dance gracefully! That might make exercise more fun! Everyone hop in my car....we're going for a joy ride!
First Class!
Very good post. As I get older I find I'm falling back into being body conscious more and more because the focus has shifted to taking care of the illnesses that have beset it. I wonder if this is the natural progression?
@peacefulmeadow - i know... it takes effort to maintain this awareness though
good post. Very yoga centered in its concept I think.
@hesacontradiction - hehehe would you believe that that was my paper in college? recreation therapy...
@theramblingman - thanks
and thanks for the rec
@Marshall1250 - you can still take care of your body while being in the soul conscious stage...
one of my mentors is such person
i guess it would take effort...
@ZSA_MD - thanks, Z... it is... but lets remember that yoga means connection... yoke
@tribong_upos - Gotta love those college papers! I remember racking my brain for a topic (when I went back to finish at 28), I couldn't think of one. My political science class was studying gay marriage and we had to read these handouts given to us. So I combined the two classes and did one project. I thought it was brillant to use my head and save time. Anyway, the paper was a major sucess. I still have it, but I never have used the paper even though my state was the first to legalize it. Funny thing is...it's turning majorly conservative and want to veto the law. They just might get it done to next Tuesday with the election of a new Governor (actually old since he was governor thorought the 80's, coming out of retirement). Funny how this works. We all get hyped up for "change" with the election of Obama, now they are going to vote Republicans in. I'm so totally confused! =/
Congrats on making on Most Recommended page too!
ah, most interesting
@CaKaLusa - thank you
@hesacontradiction - I did? whoa! didn't know that
Oh, I thought you were shunned from politics already hehehe...
@tribong_upos - Are we talking about the Lucifer Effect...or the increasing saddness and anxiety that I have about losing the House???
Thank you, Ritch, for this profound post worth reflecting. I really need this for more self-growth. I love reading this and trying to practice it!
