  • Conflict

    Thoughts

There has probably never been a time where there has been so much fear and conflict across the world, not just across oceans and borders but across the breakfast table. In fact many now prefer conflict to peace, as they become addicted to the actions of anger and aggression, and the adrenaline rush which results. They don't really want conflict to end, in fact, they will say that some conflict is good to get things done and stimulate change. They are not aware that they are killing themselves. All conflict is simply a symptom of attachment to a position. And as we know, this generates fear, and fear, if allowed to stay, eventually kills it's host. All solutions are based on detachment or letting go. But that will be difficult until we can see that all possession is an illusion, that we have nothing to lose and that there are no victories in winning. ~ relax7.com

For two months now, members of the lawmaking body of our province, Negros Oriental (Philippines), have been at odds. There's the group that supports the Governor, believing that it is just right to support the governor's projects as long as its beneficial to the people and is legal; while there are those who oppose the Governor simply because they were told by their "bosses" to not support him, after all he was not elected, but climbed into power merely through succession.

As a backgrounder, our present governor is the third after the 2010 elections. The one who won the elections (Macias) died before he even took oath. His successor (Perdices), on the other hand, died less than a year in office, thus our present governor.

In the global scale, there's the unending war that, if resolved in one country, would spark in another. The Philippines has been engaged in war for decades, a civil war between the Maoist guerrilla army and the Imperialist-backed government army.

Conflict is everywhere. We hear it on the news, we read about it on magazines and novels. Its everywhere. Even in ourselves there are inner conflicts that we just cannot let go of.

I, for one, could not get away from conflict. It seems that every time there's someone on my circle who's being bullied, I always try to be there to help, and by that I don't mean just give advice or anything. I mean waging war against the enemy of my friend, after all, what are friends for if they can't be relied on in times of trouble, right?

Just recently, I realized that keeping quite and just letting events unfold is the best option for me. After all, why should I join in the conflict of others. Sometimes though, this passive attitude would create an internal conflict. Its just not being me to be passive, but then again, why the added stress? So, I would resort to just venting my thoughts and frustrations through my writing, including here on Xanga.

Still, peaceful resolution to conflicts is what I adhere to. This can be difficult though, especially if none of the parties involved are willing to give in, believing that giving in is a form of defeat. Why do we hate defeat, anyway? Ego? I guess, but then defeat is also a form of winning, don't you think? Perhaps not the kind of winning that we desire, but somehow, we'll be winning something. Friends, better relations, and more importantly, peace of mind.

Really, there's nothing that we can get from conflict except for a headache.

  • I was involved in an argument a while back.  The solution was quite simple and was a win-win.  I watched the other person, maliciously attack the other one regarding the same subject right after a solution was formed.  Too many people love the drama.  It saddened me awhile back when I posted "Don't tell your problems to anyone.  20% don't care and the other 80% are glad you have them."  I found it's better to exclude myself from any conflicts that don't include me.

  • @hesacontradiction - hehehehe its always better to avoid conflict... :D but yesterday i was in such a bad argument with the husband on my boss, who thinks that I am also bound to his whims and orders... really sucks to have a politician for a boss..
