    Reflection

Ever been in a situation wherein you just have a lot of things to say? Where you seem to have an opinion on almost everything?

Now, put yourself on the shoes of the other person. Here, you have a friend who just can't stop talking, seamlessly jumping from one topic to the other. And you are not given the opportunity to respond. Would you still be interested in the conversation?

Well, there are times when I get to encounter people who just can't stop talking, and always, what comes to my mind is, "This guy is high on cocaine!" It's either I ignore him, and just nod my head politely, smile, or laugh a little bit from time to time to make him feel that I am still listening. But in truth, I've lost interest in listening five minutes into the conversation. We live in a diverse world and there are people who just can't stop talking, but should these people be us?

Conversation is talking plus listening. A meaningful and healthy exchange of ideas. Underline the word EXCHANGE, because there is such a thing as the listening "phase", and when I say listening, I mean listening, which means responding appropriately to the comment given, unless of course if you believe that there is a need to shift to another topic.

When you start to listen, the other person would appreciate it and would respect you for giving him/her the respect that she needed. Listening to the other person's opinion and thoughts is a sign of respect. Now, if you don't want the other person to talk, then be a radio commentator, or better yet, talk to the mirror.

Blogging is much the same way. Here in Xanga, I learned that for your posts to be read, you also have to learn and appreciate to read the posts of other Xangans. The more popular Xangans are those who take time to read and comment on other posts. It's not really about creating a great entry, although that also matters, but more importantly, its about giving others some importance, letting them know that their thoughts matter. That is the only secret to their success. Respect.

Here is a wonderful post on how to have a meaningful conversation: Stop Yapping, Start Conversing.

And here is a wonderful meditation video on empathy...

  • No TheoDa(M)n does the provoking and let the xangians rant on and on.

Not all topics are of interest. We are not all suckers for all topics and there is a point were we start to care less about certain things.

Isn't it strange that a politician in the Philippines has to leave the country for medical treatment? I wonder has the medical facilities have limitations of what they can do and the politicians who make money in the Philippines will not spend it in the Philippines? At least I think the Philippines does not import famous actors from other countries to recommend products made in the Philippines....

  • @PPhilip - Oh but we do import foreign actors, specially American and Korean actors... now Thai actors are becoming a hit as well.

On the politician, hehehe, well, unofficial rumors said that she's trying to seek asylum in other countries, but has to go out in the guise of medical treatment... heck if she can't trust our doctors, how can we go into medical tourism? Now I'm ranting :D

  • The door is open for the Philippines and a lot of them now want to go to other countries. The hard part is how to build the Philippines into a greater country. I really put my foot into my mouth on the actors from foreign countries. Then again you can promote more Philippino videos here at xanga to do your part into making the Philippines more acceptable to the world....

  • @PPhilip - thank you Pphilip... :D
