Celebrating the end to Violence Against Women, take the VOW!
Did you know that today we commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women?
Apparently we are.
Headed by Gabriela (a women's organization in the Philippines, with an affiliate organization in the US and a political party with two seats in the Philippine Congress) and the International Women's Alliance, the campaign aims raise awareness on the alarming cases of violence against women. (Story, here).
Gabriela initiated this campaign called I Vow to fight VAW (take the pledge, here), which aims to instill awareness on the fight against violence against women and to encourage people to be vigilant against such crimes.
Gabriela USA, have a wonderful project, which takes the vow a step further. They encourage people to send in pictures holding a pledge card so that they can post it on their site.
(The 43 healthcare workers are already released, by the way, but I guess there's still two more being detained by the Philippine military)
So, why don't you take that pledge now? Simply go to either www.gabusa.org or to www.ivowtofightvaw.com.

Thank you for posting this and I took the pledge.
@Grannys_Place - Ruth, thank you so much. The campaign actually made me cry... you know, sharing the pain of a victim of violence is really something...
Sad that the world hasn't progressed much more than caveman times.
@hesacontradiction - its progressing, slowly but surely... actually, in the Philippines, women had equal power with men, until the Spanish and Americans came and made them into second class citizens
Okay, I'll. Sure as heck I will.
@RestlessButterfly - yehey!!! thank you, Rez
Taking the pledge. Thanks for sharing this important cause.
@Willows_Hollow - thank you for responding
and for the rec
@tribong_upos - hehehe....you are probably right! =)
@hesacontradiction - :D
You always have such wonderful messages in your blogs Ritchie. I am glad to take the pledge. I am very involved about this in my own community here.
@ZSA_MD - wow.. thank you so much, Z
so planning on joining the rush on Black Friday? or rest your knees?
@tribong_upos - NOOO! I don't go to any shopping center this weekend, and have never been. It is dog eat dog kind of days. PLUS, to tell you the truth, I haven't been able to go shopping yet. I don't think I want to tire myself out and suffer at night with discomfort.
On another post of mine I responded to your comment and informed you that I couldn't sign the pledge card. I don't know why. The cursor would take me there, but I just couldn't type the name after "I"----! Also I could't open the second web site. It didn't allow me.
@ZSA_MD - From the looks of it, the Black Friday thing was very stressful and crowded, plus I read somewhere that many just browsed through the products not really buying anything...
Oh, its ok Z,,, its the thought and intention that counts
@tribong_upos -
