  • Picking up the zero

    Reflection

Sometime in our lives we feel so down that we would start thinking life is being unfair to us. We need picking up, but we find nowhere and no one to pick us up.

This point in our lives may either be a cause for something great or a cause for something even more depressing than our current state.

There are those who would seek refuge in vices or in people, who in turn would bring one to more destruction. While there are those who would seek help from more productive avenues and take a journey towards enlightenment. Whatever the decision that we make, it will always be a personal journey. Even those who journey to the darkside.

The darkside can be very attractive as it offers quick solutions; while the light, well, despite the promise of a lighter and a brighter tomorrow, the path is just to difficult to tread.

    Its like medicine.

Sometimes we want the quick fix for our pain, and so we take Tylenol and other pain relievers. But all the while we are not looking for the solution to the real problem, which is actually deeper than the superficial pain that we are experiencing. Eventually, the disease that's been bothering our body would eat us up until finally the pain would never disappear.

It's time for us to stop taking those temporary reliefs and stand up to the pain. Its time for us to battle the pain head on and find the real cause of the problem so that we can do something about it, with finality.

Looking at the zero of our life, there will always be a solution because as James 1:12 says:

"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." (ESV)

And in Isaiah 41:10, he said:

"So do not fear for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (NIV)

Of course, before God, or any Supreme Being for that matter, could pick us up, we have to decide which path to take.

Here's a wonderful meditation video from Inner Space UK's YouTube channel:

  • I usually deal with these moments with a Buddhist concept - if you meet the Buddha on the path, kill him. There is no external solution to internal problems. The way I get picked back up is by turning to my internal life - whether it's prayer, meditation, or just contemplation of the real reasons for my suffering. That's how I keep plugging along and enjoying the adventures of life. I like what you bring up about the reward of being steadfast and the importance that one has faith that things will work out and there's no reason anyone can't attain a better life.

  • If you keep showing these videos I might want to be spirirtual again, like I used to be, hehe But seriously, we all have to face ourselves someday so it's better to start now of our own free will than have it forced on us by circumstances.

  • I have learned this year, as I will state in my birthday post tomorrow (11/28), that the pain and suffering we endure, far from being imposed by an indifferent, hostile or mocking Being, are sent us by a Loving God. If we cannot handle the trials and tribulations of this physical training ground of a life, how will we handle the tasks He needs us to perform in the Universe, during our eternity as spiritual creatures?

  • @oceanstarr - hahaha first time for me to hear that concept... :D poor Buddha :D thank you for sharing such enriching thoughts :) I agree, no external solution to internal problems :)

  • @runisom48 - I agree... not just by circumstance, but by other people, most especially... I hate it when people would force their faith on others :D

  • @RighteousBruin - wonderful... although I never and refuse to believe that God has something to do with our problems :D he just allows it to happen to us, because like a loving father, how else could we learn from our mistakes :D

  • Thanks this helps where I am at now. Sometimes I feel like I'm in the pit of despair and I reflect back on what God has already done for me. He's done a lot and i am grateful.

  • @SkyyL - it gladdens my heart to read your comment... our journeys are unique but the challenges we face may have similarities... helping each other in their journey also helps us with our own journey :D or something like that :)

  • Another good post from you.
