The eclipse
Around 6:17 pm on December 10, I unsuccessfully tweeted the following:
The moon so whole. Brightly illuminating the serene Tañon Strait. Majestic!
A few minutes later I overheard a mother telling her kids to wait for the eclipse, which she said would happen around 7:30 pm. I was like, "What? An eclipse?"
I was on my way to El Amigo, a watering hole just across Silliman University, to meet my French Canadian friend Simon and his Polish friend Andre.
They knew of the eclipse but none of us knew the exact time. 7:30 came and still no eclipse. The moon was so bright against the clear cloudless and starless night sky. We decided to transfer to Blue Monkey Grill which has a better view, but before that we tried waiting for it by the Boulevard with all the noisy people eating street food (tempura and balut).
Finally, Andre said that his friend checked the net and messaged him that it would be at around 10:30. We waited with several bottles of beer, and at around 9:30 the event started. The transition was slow but beautifully slow. It was amazing when finally the moon was fully covered. Blood red, it turned. I thought it would be completely dark, but then, as Simon pointed out, there were plenty of lights in the city. That figures.
There was apparently an eclipse party by the beach an hour away from where we were. We thought we would not have time to go there, besides, transportation would be difficult. So, we settled with what we had and still it was a great experience.
A great event coupled with great conversation. Nothing beats that.

Where were you and what were you doing during the eclipse?
Did you see the eclipse in your part of the world?

Wow that's one amazing picture! Red moon means blood in my country, we avoid going out in a red moon night O.o Weirdly we have no superstitions about eclipses, I guess Mayans knew the phenomenon well enough and they didn't comunicate any fear out of it.
I was at home watching Dragon Ball with my kids
No eclipse in this side of the World.
My rec button doesn't work in your site, so I'm sharing this comment instead.
hey, I saw her comment and had to come see it. I didn't go out and get it early in the morning-hubby and I forgot.
I know how can someone forget? when I was young I didnt' miss a thing but now I do.
@xXxlovelylollipop - I was actually waiting for it to go black but it didn't... that's the most that the eclipse went in this side of the planet... but it was fully covered... more like a shadow...
thank you for the thought of rec'ng... your visit is already a pleasure
@Babyboomerjill - oh, but would you still see it during the day?
you know, it was amazing how people around us didn't notice the eclipse.. they were just babbling on and on as if nothing was happening in the skies... they were so engrossed with what they were doing... we were the only ones looking up the night sky, and doing it while trying to prevent our chairs from falling down
@tribong_upos - maybe the people around you didn't know what to look for? since it's not something that happens often. I think it was suppose to be in the morning like at 5am and we forgot but I did see the moon later and it was light out. here.
Thats a great picture! I was inside my house because I knew there was going to an eclipse I just didn't know what time or I would've watched it.
@Babyboomerjill - perhaps
oh, that early... i'd still be snoozing at that time...
@Aletheas_Unspoken_words - :D thank you for the visit dear friend
Welcome!
I knew about it but I don't think it was visible from here. I think there might even be one more right around the first of the year, a solar, I need to check. Howling at the moon (or non-moon, I can never remember which kind of eclipse is which!)
@DivaJyoti - :D hehehe thank you for the mini, DJ
@tribong_upos - we were sleeping, too but for an event like that we thought about getting up early. lol I guess we will have to be satisfied with seeing Haley's Comet as kids on the rooftop.(kidding that happened like 1910)
